Aarenet's systems pervade all requirements of professional VoIP products in outstanding quality and high availability. Each system is custom built and configured according to the technical, administrational and regulatory requirements.

Aarenet cooperates closely with the development teams of its various partners to ensure the full integration of all building blocks in an unrivalled level of quality.
An Aarenet VoIP System consists of the Aarenet VoIP Switch, a Firewall or a Session Border Controller (SBC) and auxiliary devices such as a provisioning or UCC server. The connection to the public phone network (PSTN resp. Public Switched Telephone Network) is realized over SIP trunks or SS7 gateways.

The customer premises equipment (CPE) is connected over broadband IP either directly as in the case of IP-phones or soft clients or indirectly with gateways as in the case of analogue phones or ISDN equipment. The integration into customer management or billing systems is realized through interfaces such as XML.
Aarenet VoIP Systems are positioned between the customers' equipment and the Public Telephone network infrastructure. Aarenet Systems fit in three areas of operation and customer segments:
  • Aarenet Class 5 VoIP System
  • Aarenet Class 4 Interconnection System
  • Aarenet Enterprise Virtual PBX System

An Aarenet System supports all three areas of operation - Class 5, Class 4 and Virtual PBX.


Excellent scability is inherent to the architecture in its logic, in physical deployment and location wise

The modular design of the Aarenet VoIP Switch allows an optimal adaptation to specific customer requirements. For a small, non-redundant system all system components are installed on one server. Fully redundant carrier grade systems for SIP clients have usually two Service Centres, two Config Centres and two Load Balancers.

To scale up and support large number of clients dedicated DB servers will be needed and additional Service Centres may be added. The architecture facilitates the realization of geo-redundant system setup.
The Service Centre supervises and controls the calls. It handles the caller authentication, routes the calls and generates call-data-records (CDR’s). The redundant implementation of the Service Centre increases the availability of the system.

The Load Balancer receives and forwards SIP messages from the CPE’s to the identified Service Centre with the highest non-utilized processing capacity in consideration of the configured load distribution to manage the call.

The Call Agent and Call Balancer are components to control and route MGCP devices. These components are not necessary if only SIP clients are used.

The system is configured with the web-based Config Centre. All system relevant configurations are maintained in the Config Centre.
The maximum number of subscribers which may operate on one system is determined by the performance of the deployed hardware and therefore highly scalable from test systems to Carrier Grade deployments with several hundred thousand accounts. System upgrades can be realized without interruption of the system.


More and more business customers abandon their own PBX

Aarenet Virtual PBX offers outstanding benefits to the voice provider and their customer. Voice providers receive a scalable highly available platform including extensive tools for provisioning, operations and support. To customers the solution of Aarenet features a balanced set of functionalities with a comprehensive offering of devices.
Virtual PBX or IP Centrex Systems offer PBX functionality provided by a centralized system. The customers only require terminals such as IP-phones, IP-DECT systems and analogue terminal adapters (ATA’s) for fax devices. The solution is very appealing for enterprises with geographically disperse locations that do not want to acquire their own local PBX and prefer to use the Virtual PBX services of a Telecom Service Providers.

The Aarenet Virtual PBX functionality includes features such as conference calls, call-forking, group-calls, voice-mail, IVR and UCC integration. A fully integrated fixed-mobile convergence solution ensures the seamless operation and handover between Wi-Fi, GSM/mobile and fixed line voice networks. The "one number" concept enables a transparent call-distribution amongst mobile and fixed IP phones.
For corporate customers, the use of a Virtual PBX offers a wealth of advantages. The initial low investment and the fact that the system is cloud based and managed by the provider. The possibility to use the service for flex workers or to integrate new branch offices very easy, the integrated location independent numbering plan for the company and free calls for all internal communication are the main, but not the only advantages offered by a Virtual PBX.

The Virtual PBX is administrated via the Admin Centre (for PBX administrators and end-users) from any PC or Smartphone. Zero-touch auto provisioning ensures an effective rollout of all phones to the end customer.


Integrated system security features protect the system and the client registrations for security infringements and associated liabilities

Security in Carrier Grade VoIP Systems is of utmost importance. Unexpected and unwanted system infringements can cause financial damage, and may also cause irreparable reputational damage to a Service Provider.

Aarenet Security Suite is a set of active and passive system and application related security features. The Security Suite is categorized in three feature groups. The Secure Limiter function was designed to block fraudulent access attempts to the SIP Clients’ accounts. The Security Protect function analyses the egress and ingress IP traffic for anomaly and the Security Connect function will limit unallowed access attempts into the system.
As a first line of defense, the number of usable voice channels can be limited per subscriber account. This will prevent unwanted simultaneous calls to be made in parallel in the case of a subscriber account take-over.

In parallel, Aarenet’s top stop functionality can be configured to limit the maximum total charges of a subscriber account during a defined accounting period. If a certain threshold charge has been reached, system generated emails are sent to the Service Providers NOC and associated actions can be initiated. Finally, time controlled block sets will block certain destinations during defined time frames.
Accessing any core system component starts with the use of secure credentials. The Aarenet VoIP system will screen all system login credentials and report weak passwords. Configurable list of blocked directory numbers (black list) prevents calls to costly destination and service numbers. New to the Security Suite is the ability to detect destination anomaly and call pattern anomaly.

Without infringing on any personal data, the voice traffic pattern is analyzed and in the case of anomaly threshold detection, notification will be sent to Service Provider’s NOC. Service Providers personnel can contact the end-users to assure that the usage is legitimate and not a consequence of any fraud account usage.
The Secure Connect Suite accepts account access only from a predefined set of IP address ranges (single, multiple, address range) and secures the system against any non-controlled access. Account access fail attempts (DoS, password attack) will lead to account blocking and subsequent messages being sent to the Service Providers NOC. The support of multiple IP subnets (private and public) allows the Service Providers to serve End-users within a private IP network. Up to 64 private IP subnets are supported.


IP-mobile client for IOS and Android smartphones

Aarenet “an IP-Phone” is a mobile client for IOS and Android smartphones that supports business and residential telephony in any location. Also, it features a seamless Fixed-Mobile Integration of the telephony service. It is using Voice over IP technology over either Wifi or mobile data networks (EDGE, GPR or LTE). The smartphone app is available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Carriers can opt for a branded app that can be offered on their own app stores.


Activating the application is a simple Plug and Play Process, in which the user only scans a QR-Code. After activation, the service will register in the VoIP System with the assigned number and apart from the activation code, there is no need to program or edit any user credentials. The user can now use fixed telephony services and benefit from fixed telephony rates anytime and anywhere and can save significantly on foreign roaming charges for mobile telephony.

Mind-call Handover

“an IP-Phone” incorporates seamless handover from the WiFi local network to the mobile data network (EDGE, GSM or LTE) in case of missing WiFi coverage. This means complete location independence even during an active call. Active calls are continued on the public network and are passed back to the WiFi local network if an active access point is detected again.

Extended Reachability

The contacts in the smartphone are imported in the client software to enable simplified contact dialing. Both internal calls as well as external calls are indicated and enable a one number concept throughout the company. Overflow functionality to public mobile or voice mail (provided by the Aarenet VoIP System) ensure that calls will be answered even in the event of a missing data connection.

Meeting Room

For up to 5 video and 10 audio participants
“an Meeting” is the right size for team collaboration, business meetings, tutoring, consulting, and many other uses cases. With room for five video participants or ten audio participants, it provides a wide array of features from interactive white board to screen sharing, live chat, document sharing, presentations, and more. Audio and video is delivered Peer to Peer between end user devices, and supporting documents are sent to the server to generate a convenient summary that is emailed to participants after the meeting. This standard solution is ideal for everyday business videoconferencing.


For up to 10 video and 20 audio participants
Larger groups can meet using the “a Boardroom” feature that hosts up to 10 participants with audio and video so that everyone can be seen and heard. Distributed teams can use this size of virtual meeting room to collaborate on complex projects where the conversation needs to include everyone. The boardroom is also ideal for formal meetings such as annual or quarterly reviews and planning sessions. Meetings can be recorded to meet documentation requirements and for later analysis. Integration with traditional telephony allows users without internet access to call in using a landline and to join the conversation.


For up to 50 video participants in classroom broadcast mode
The one-to-many configuration of “a Classroom” allows one or more presenters to share information with up to 50 audience members. This configuration is designed for educational webinars, training events, and other large-scale presentations. A full set with whiteboard, screen sharing, and document upload features are included. The level of interactivity with audience members is determined by the administrator. Non-presenting participants will have the ability to request permission to share their own video feed. Audience members may also ask questions via chat. A summary can be automatically distributed to audience members after the event for training reinforcement.

Aarenet’s systems pervade all requirements and offer excellent tools for system operations.
